A big update is coming for those who use PAN cards. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is going to make Aadhaar Card mandatory for PAN card. This simply means that now it will be very important to have an Aadhaar card to get a PAN card. Along with this, those whose PAN card is not linked to an Aadhaar card have also been instructed to link it as soon as possible, so that any kind of trouble can be avoided.
When will the new rules be implemented
According to media reports, it will be necessary to have an Aadhaar card to get a PAN card from July 1, 2025. Currently, any document is considered valid for proof of date of birth, name, and identity to get a PAN card. But from July 1, 2025, it will not be possible to make a PAN card without an Aadhaar card. This is an important change for all new applicants who will apply for a PAN card for the first time.

Last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar
Currently, users are given the option to link their Aadhaar to their PAN card while making a PAN card. However, now its linking will become mandatory. Users can link their PAN card to Aadhaar till 31 December 2025. But, if someone links a PAN card to Aadhaar after 31 December 2025, then he will have to pay a penalty. This last date is for those whose PAN is already made but is not linked to Aadhaar.
Why is this change happening
According to media reports, the Income Tax Department found that many people have more than one PAN card or they are cheating the government while making tax payments by making a PAN card in the name of another person. To prevent such fraud and tax evasion, the government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN. This will increase transparency in financial transactions and eliminate the possibility of a person having multiple PAN cards.
