Timeline for the New EV Policy
Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh has informed that the new EV policy will be implemented in the capital within the next 15 to 20 days. This policy will be an updated and more effective version of the existing electric vehicle scheme. The government believes that by promoting electric vehicles, the number of polluting vehicles on Delhi’s roads can be reduced.
How Much Subsidy Will Be Available on Electric Two-Wheelers?
Under the new policy, those buying electric two-wheelers are likely to receive a subsidy of ₹10,000 per kilowatt. The maximum subsidy limit may be set at ₹30,000. In addition, a special incentive may be provided for women, under which they could receive benefits of up to approximately ₹36,000. This will encourage women to adopt electric vehicles.
Complete Relief from Road Tax and Registration Fees
To make EV purchases even more affordable, the Delhi government is preparing to offer a 100 percent exemption on road tax and registration fees. This decision will directly reduce the on-road price of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are already more economical compared to expensive petrol and diesel vehicles, and the tax exemption will make this option even more attractive.
Goal to Reduce Pollution from the Transport Sector
The government aims to reduce pollution from the transport sector by 25 to 30 percent in the coming years. Vehicles are considered to be a major contributor to air pollution in Delhi. GRAP Stage 4 and strict restrictions on vehicle entry
GRAP Stage 4 has been implemented in Delhi after pollution levels reached extremely severe levels. This stage imposes strict restrictions on vehicular movement. Only vehicles registered in other states that meet BS-6 emission standards are being allowed to enter Delhi. The entry of private cars, taxis, school buses, and commercial vehicles of BS-2, BS-3, and BS-4 categories has been banned until further notice. Vehicles from other states already operating in Delhi are also being strictly checked.
