The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has significantly increased the fee for Aadhaar updates, effective October 1st. Individuals making corrections or changes to Aadhaar details such as name, address, biometrics, or documents will now be required to pay a higher fee. This fee increase will be effective until September 30, 2028, after which the UIDAI will review it again. This change will directly impact the pockets of millions of citizens.
Which services are affected, and what are the new fees
UIDAI has revised the fees for both demographic and biometric updates.

Demographic Updates
Demographic updates include changes to details such as name, address, date of birth, mobile number, and email. If you only perform demographic updates, the new fee has increased from ₹50 to ₹75. The biggest relief is that if you perform demographic and biometric updates simultaneously, there will be no additional fee for the demographic portion.
Biometric Updates
Changes to biometrics, such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs, will now cost ₹125. This fee will increase to ₹150 from October 2028.
Document Updates
Updating identity or address documents at enrolment centres will now cost ₹75, up from ₹50. However, if you use the myAadhaar portal (online), document updates will be completely free until June 14, 2026.
Home Aadhaar Services and Special Discounts for Children
UIDAI has introduced special concessions for home Aadhaar services and biometric updates for children for the needy. Obtaining an Aadhaar printout through eKYC or other methods will cost ₹40 in the first phase, which will increase to ₹50 thereafter. If someone who cannot visit a center seeks home Aadhaar enrolment services, the fee is ₹700, including GST. If more than one person at the same address avails this home service, a fee of ₹350 will be charged for each additional person.

Biometric Update Waiver for Children
To ease the burden on families, UIDAI has waived the biometric update fee for certain children.
For children aged 5-7 and 15-17: Their first mandatory biometric update is completely free.
For children aged 7-15: The usual biometric update fee is ₹125, but this fee has been waived until September 30, 2026.
