Bank Close
Bank Holidays: There is a big news for bank customers. If you plan to visit a bank branch in the coming days for important tasks like cash deposits, accessing lockers, or submitting documents, this information is crucial for you. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar indicates that all public and private banks nationwide will be closed for several days in the next two weeks.
These closures include the fourth Saturday of the month, weekly Sundays, and a significant festival at the end of May. This applies to all banks across the country, including the State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank. To prevent any inconvenience, please check this list of bank holidays before heading out.
When will banks be closed in the next two weeks?
May 23 (Saturday): All banks will be closed for the fourth Saturday of the month.
May 24 (Sunday): Weekly holiday.
May 27 (Wednesday): Most banks will be closed in various states for the Bakrid festival.
May 31 (Sunday): The last day of the month and a weekly holiday.
Note: The Bakrid holiday on May 27th may differ by state based on local moon sightings and RBI notifications. Therefore, it’s advisable to check your state government’s guidelines.
What are the rules regarding Saturday holidays?
As per current RBI regulations, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks in India are entirely closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Additionally, banks are closed on all Sundays. However, on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, banks operate normally and are fully functional.
Complete your banking tasks digitally from the comfort of your home.
Even though bank branches will be closed, you need not worry about your financial transactions. Digital and online banking services will continue to operate 24/7, even during holidays:
Online transactions: UPI payments, net banking, and mobile banking apps will remain available.
Fund Transfer: Customers can easily transfer funds online using NEFT and RTGS.
Cash Withdrawal: ATM machines will remain operational, from where you can withdraw cash.
Non-cash services: Many facilities like cheque book request, account maintenance and card block/unblock will continue to be available on net banking.
Banks often perform maintenance on their digital servers during these holidays. In such circumstances, net banking may be down for a few hours. However, banks inform customers in advance of this via SMS or email to their registered mobile number.
