Bank Holiday: Banks will not be open today, Wednesday, April 29th. Although the RBI’s calendar for April did not list any holidays on Wednesdays, this holiday was added on Tuesday. Today marks the assembly elections in West Bengal. The RBI has announced a holiday in light of these elections. Only banks in West Bengal will be closed, while those in other states will continue to operate. You can check the RBI holiday list here.

Banks will be closed on Wednesday, April 29

The second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections will occur in various regions of the state on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. All branches of government and private banks in these areas will be shut down. However, UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATM services will still be accessible to customers during this holiday.

Below is the full list of locations in West Bengal where banks will be closed today.

 

1. North 24 Parganas (33 seats)

 

This district holds political importance and encompasses constituencies such as Barrackpore, Dum Dum, Rajarhat Gopalpur, Bidhannagar, Naihati, Bhatpara, Jagatdal, Noapara, Amdanga, Ashoknagar, Habra, Barsat, Deganga, Basirhat North, Basirhat South, Baduria, Swarupnagar, Minakha, Sandeshkhali, and Hingalganj.

 

2. South 24 Parganas (31 seats)

 

This region is known as a TMC stronghold. Voting will occur in constituencies like Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Tollygunge, Behala East, Behala West, Sonarpur North, Sonarpur South, Bhangar, Kasba, Metiabruz, Budge Budge, Maheshtala, Satgachhia, Falta, Kulpi, Raidighi, Mandirbazar, Jaynagar, Baruipur East, Baruipur West, Canning East, Canning West, Basanti, and Gosaba.

 

3. Hooghly (18 seats)

 

This district includes constituencies such as Srirampur, Chandannagar, Chunchura, Uttarpara, Singur, Saptagram, Pandua, Balagarh, Dhanekhali, Tarakeswar, Purshuda, Arambagh, Khanakul, and Jangipara.

 

4. Nadia (17 seats)- In Nadia district, polling will be held in seats like Krishnanagar North, Krishnanagar South, Shantipur, Kalyani, Chakdaha, Haringhata, Ranaghat North, Ranaghat South, Tehatta, Karimpur, Nabadwip and Nakashipara.

 

5. Howrah (16 seats)- Important seats in Howrah district include Howrah North, Howrah South, Howrah Central, Shibpur, Bally, Santragachi, Panchla, Uluberia North, Uluberia South, Uluberia East, Jagatballabhpur and Domjur.

 

6. Purba Bardhaman (16 seats)- The seats here are Bardhaman North, Bardhaman South, Memari, Kalna, Katwa, Ketugram, Mangalkot, Ausgram, Raina and Jamalpur.

 

7. Kolkata (11 seats)- Major urban seats of Kolkata are also in this phase, including Bhawanipur, Kolkata North, Shyampukur, Chowringhee, Entally, Beleghata, Jorasanko, Maniktala, Ballygunge and Rasbihari.
