ATM free transaction limit

Currently, the limit of free transactions is as follows:

  • At your bank’s ATM, 5 free transactions every month
  • At other banks’ ATMs in metro cities: 3 free transactions
  • At other banks’ ATMs in non-metro cities: 5 free transactions

RBI’s new rule and the changed charges of major banks

PNB ATM charges

After the free transactions at PNB ATMs, customers will be charged ₹10 plus tax. On the other hand, ₹23 + tax will be charged in metro cities and ₹11 + tax in non-metro cities at ATMs of other banks. According to the PNB website, “After exceeding the free transaction limit at ATMs of other banks, a fee of ₹23 will be charged on financial transactions and ₹11 (excluding GST) on non-financial transactions.” These changes have come into effect on May 9, 2025. HDFC Bank ATM charges

According to HDFC Bank’s website, from May 1, the transaction fee for transactions above the free limit has been increased from ₹21 + taxes to ₹23 + taxes. On the other hand, non-HDFC Bank ATMs will charge for cash withdrawals as well as non-financial transactions. Metro cities include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. IndusInd Bank ATM charges

IndusInd Bank has also changed its ATM charges. Now all savings, salary, NR, and current account holders will have to pay a fee of ₹23 per transaction for cash withdrawals from non-IndusInd Bank ATMs after the free limit.

SBI ATM charges

State Bank of India (SBI) has updated its ATM fee policy from February 1, 2025. Currently, all customers get 5 free transactions at SBI ATMs and 10 free transactions at ATMs of other banks. If the customer’s average monthly balance is between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh, they get 5 free transactions at ATMs of other banks. Those whose AMB is more than ₹1 lakh get unlimited free transactions at SBI and other bank ATMs. After the free limit, ₹15 + GST ​​will be charged at SBI ATMs and ₹21 + GST ​​per transaction at other bank ATMs. SBI customers should pay special attention to this information.
