Bengal Weather Update: The calendar says winter has departed from Bengal. The heat is really ramping up as the day goes on. The Meteorological Office has reported that temperatures in South Bengal are set to rise significantly this week. However, there’s a chance of rain in the northern regions, and we might even see some light snowfall in the higher hills of Darjeeling.
Western disturbance, cyclonic circulation
A new western disturbance is expected to roll in on March 2, while a cyclonic circulation is currently affecting Assam. There are also cyclones brewing in Rajasthan and Kerala, but they won’t bring much rain to South Bengal. Expect some light fog in the coastal areas in the mornings, but overall, the skies should stay clear with little chance of rain this week.
Temperatures will gradually climb
Starting Thursday, temperatures will gradually climb, possibly rising by four degrees over the weekend. Kolkata’s minimum temperature could hit around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius. Fog is likely in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri, as well as in Cooch Behar and Uttar Dinajpur. All of North Bengal will likely be shrouded in fog, and we might see light snowfall again in Darjeeling.
On Thursday, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri. Rainfall will pick up on Friday and continue through Saturday. The temperatures will stay consistent for the next four to five days. It’s worth noting that there’s a chance of hailstorms with thunder and lightning in Delhi today and tomorrow, along with similar weather in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and several northeastern states, as well as parts of Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir.
