Aadhaar card, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is one of the most important identity documents for Indian residents. It is used for government schemes, banking, travel, and digital verification.
It is important to keep your personal details, especially the date of birth (DOB), correct in the Aadhaar card. To help citizens, UIDAI has made the DOB correction process simple. However, it can now be done only offline. To update their date of birth, individuals have to visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment or update centre. Here is the step-by-step process:
How to Update Date of Birth in Aadhaar
- Visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
- Fill out the Aadhaar update or correction form, available at the centre or online here
.Attach proof of date of birth such as passport, birth certificate, or government ID. - Complete biometric verification to confirm your identity.
- You will get a receipt with a 14-digit URN (update request number) to track your request.
- Pay a service fee of Rs 50 for the update.
- The update usually takes up to 90 days.
Online Update No Longer Available for Date of Birth
Earlier, UIDAI allowed online updates for many fields, including date of birth. Now, only address changes can be done online through the myAadhaar portal. All other updates, like name, gender, and date of birth, must be done at the registration centre.
Valid Documents for Date of Birth Correction
You need to submit one of the following documents:
- Passport
- Birth certificate issued by the government
- Service photo ID from central/state government or PSU
- Mark sheet of a recognised board or university
- Transgender ID card (as per Transgender Persons Act, 2019)
- Pension payment order or similar document from statutory bodies
Can You Update Date of Birth More Than Once?
UIDAI allows only one date of birth correction. If you want to change it again, you must go through the exception process at the UIDAI regional office:
- Visit an Aadhaar centre
- Give a valid reason with legal documents
- Get approval after review by UIDAI officials
Note: Date of birth updates without valid proof will not be accepted. You must submit legal documents.
