If you have not updated your child’s Aadhaar yet, do it soon. It is necessary to update the biometrics in the Aadhaar card of children. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued new guidelines for this. UIDAI has also written a letter to all states and union territories to complete the pending updates quickly. A child’s Aadhaar must be updated two times – first at the age of 5 years and again at the age of 15 years.
Camps will be held in schools
UIDAI Chief Bhavesh Kumar has told all states and union territories to hold camps in schools to finish the pending biometric updates of children’s Aadhaar. For this, UIDAI has partnered with the School Education and Literacy Department. Now, through the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) app, schools will get the list of children whose Aadhaar biometric update is pending.
Why update is needed
UIDAI said it is very important to update biometrics on time so that the data in the Aadhaar card stays correct. Across the country, about 17 crore Aadhaar numbers of children are still pending for update. If biometrics are not updated, children may face problems in getting benefits of many government schemes.
They may also face issues while registering in universities and competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CUET. UIDAI said parents and students often wait till the last moment, which creates stress. This can be avoided if updates are done on time.
Update at age 5 and 15 is must
UIDAI has made it clear that every child must update biometrics at the age of 5 years and again at the age of 15 years. This keeps the Aadhaar data accurate. Through school camps, this work will now be easier for both children and parents.
Benefit of the new system
With the new system, schools will know directly which children need updates. This will help in setting up targeted camps. Children will not have to stand in long lines or run to Aadhaar centers. The ministry said this joint effort will make Aadhaar updates easy for crores of children.
