But sometimes the name is spelled wrongly in Aadhaar, or there is a need to change the name due to some other reason.
Earlier, for this, one had to go to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra and stand in long lines, but now UIDAI has made this process very easy. You can change the name in your Aadhaar through the online medium from home. Let’s know about its step-by-step process and necessary documents.
Documents required to change the name on the Aadhaar card

To change the name in Aadhaar, you have to upload a supporting document. According to UIDAI, these documents should be valid. Some of the key documents are as follows:
Passport
PAN Card
Voter ID Card
Ration Card
Gadget Notification (for name change)
Bank Passbook or Statement (with photo)
Online Method to Change Name in Aadhaar from Home
The process of updating the name in Aadhaar is straightforward. Just follow these few easy steps:
First of all, visit the official website of UIDAI, uidai.gov.in.
Go to the ‘My Aadhaar’ section on the homepage and select the option of ‘Update Aadhaar Online’.
Log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
Now click on the ‘Update Name’ option. Enter your new name and upload any one of the supporting documents mentioned above.

Double-check all the information and click on the ‘Submit’ button. Your request will be submitted, and you will get a URN (Update Request Number). You can track the status of your request with this URN.
This process usually takes 7 to 10 days to complete. You will be notified via SMS once the update is complete.
Some important things to keep in mind
A user can update the name in their Aadhaar only twice through online mode. Write the new name exactly as it is written in your supporting document. The scanned copy of the document to be uploaded should be clear and legible. Once the name is updated, you can easily download your new Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website.
