8th Pay Commission update: A significant announcement for employees and pensioners who are looking forward to the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. The deadline for submitting memorandums has been extended to May 31, 2026. This extension was requested by the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) (Staff Side).
Previously, the deadline was set for April 30, 2026. However, the Pay Commission has declined the request to allow online submissions of PDF and MS Word copies of the memorandum alongside physical copies. Therefore, the Commission will only accept online submissions made through a designated link, rejecting all physical copies, PDFs, and emails.
The Pay Commission announced this on its website. The 8th Pay Commission stated in a message on its website, “The last date for submission of responses is Sunday, May 31, 2026. All submissions should be made only through the specified link. Paper-based memorandums/hard copies/PDFs/e-mails of memorandums will not be considered by the Commission.” During a meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) requested the Chairperson of the 8th Pay Commission to extend the memorandum submission deadline from April 30, 2026, to May 31, 2026.
The National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) has been advocating for the elimination of the National Pension System (NPS) and the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), as well as the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This demand was reiterated during their meeting on Tuesday. In their final memorandum to the 8th Pay Commission, the NC-JCM requested a minimum wage of Rs 69,000, a fitment factor of 3.83, a 6% annual increment, and the restoration of the old pension scheme. They also demand that all benefits be effective from January 1, 2026, and that a compensation of Rs 2 crore be provided for any employee who dies in an accident while on duty.
What else is demanded in the NC-JCM’s final memorandum?
The NC-JCM’s final memorandum calls for group insurance of Rs 1 crore for Group C and Rs 1.5 crore for Group B. It also calls for 45 days of paternity leave for male employees and 60 days of parental care leave for their entire service period. One Rank, One Pension is also demanded for civilian employees.
