8th Pay Commission Update: Big Rule Alert—All eye on 24 April

8th Pay Commission 4

8th Pay Commission Update: For central government employees, the upcoming days are set to bring significant changes. With much discussion around the 8th Pay Commission, the government has introduced a new requirement for promotions and appraisals. Let’s delve into the details of the government’s new strategy and the latest news regarding the 8th Pay Commission.

Now this task will need to be completed for appraisal

Creating Annual Performance Reports (APARs) may now pose some challenges for central government employees. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh announced in the Rajya Sabha that it is now compulsory for all central government employees and All India Services officers to complete a course on the ‘iGOT’ (Integrated Government Online Training) portal.

This implies that the department will establish a series of courses tailored to the employee’s role and level, which must be completed annually. Most importantly, these courses will be documented in the employee’s annual performance appraisal report. Not completing these courses could adversely affect their appraisal and salary increment. The government mandates that all employees consistently enhance their skills.

What does this mean for employees?

In government positions, continuous learning has now become as crucial as experience.

This will enhance employees’ skills.
The quality of work will also improve.

There will be more opportunities for promotions

When can we expect the salary increase from the 8th Pay Commission?

Millions of employees are eagerly waiting for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission’s recommendations. The government established this commission in November 2025. The commission has been allotted 18 months to present its report and recommendations. It is anticipated that the commission will deliver its report to the government by the first half of 2027. Notably, even though the report is expected in 2027, it may be applied retroactively from January 1, 2026. If this occurs, employees will receive a significant amount.

The Pay Commission team is currently engaging with various stakeholders to ensure informed decisions regarding salaries, allowances , and service conditions. In this regard, the 8th Pay Commission team will visit Dehradun on April 24, 2026. Any union, organization, or institution wishing to present its views to the Commission must submit a request for an appointment by April 10, 2026. This meeting is significant because it will address grassroots issues and demands.
