8th Pay Commission- Big news for central government employees. Central employees are waiting for the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Earlier this year, the Central Government had approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission to review the salaries of employees. However, till now neither the committee of this pay commission has been formed nor any kind of notification has come.
Now meetings of employees’ organizations and the government have started on this issue. Recently, a delegation of Government Employees National Confederation (GENC) has met Dr. Jitendra Singh. In this meeting, some important issues related to central employees were discussed. During this, the 8th Pay Commission was also mentioned. Although no official statement was issued after the meeting, it has been termed as a positive conversation.
The question was asked in the House
Recently, during the monsoon session, Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh had asked 3 questions related to the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary replied to these questions in writing – The government has decided to form the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Suggestions have been sought from major stakeholders. Its official notification will be issued in due course.
Regarding the progress so far, he said that suggestions have been sought from major stakeholders including the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and Training and the states. He said that the Commission will give its recommendations within the time frame prescribed in the Terms of Reference (TOR).
The fitment factor will be the biggest factor in the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. The fitment factor is used to review the salaries, pensions and allowances of government employees. It is an important calculation that determines the level of salary and pension of government employees. The fitment factor is determined by taking into account factors such as inflation, the needs of employees and the financial capacity of the government.
The salary of central employees is currently based on the fitment factor of the Seventh Pay Commission implemented in 2016. The commission used a fitment factor of 2.57 percent. However, this does not mean that the salary increased by 2.57 times but rather, this factor was added to the basic salary to make it at least Rs 18,000.
Calculation of salary
The salary of a government employee consists of Basic, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance. Basic is 51.5 percent of the total income while DA is around 30.9 percent, HRA is around 15.4 percent and Transport Allowance is around 2.2 percent.
