Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Day 1 Collection – Another big clash was seen at the box office on 14th August. On one side is Emraan Hashmi’s explosive action-comedy ‘Awarapan 2’ and on the other side is Sunny Deol’s powerful period drama ‘Bantwara 1947’. Both big films, both big stars, but the public’s verdict was clear – this time Emraan Hashmi’s team won. If you thought that Sunny Deol’s ‘Bantwara’ would make money on the basis of history, then you are wrong. The real history was written at the box office – and that too in the name of Imran.
Earning game – ‘Awarapan 2’ breaks records
According to the latest data from industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Awarapan 2’ garnered a net collection of more than Rs 21 crore on the first day itself. That is, including the gross collection of Rs 25.20 crore in India and Rs 2 crore from abroad, its total worldwide earnings reached Rs 27.20 crore. The funniest thing – the first ‘Awarapan’ released in 2007 was able to earn only Rs 7.76 crore in its entire lifetime. And its sequel crossed that figure in just 8 hours. This has become the biggest opening film of Emraan Hashmi’s career so far.
Imran broke his own records
You might remember, Emraan’s ‘Raaz 2’ (2012) had opened with Rs 10.35 crore and ‘Baadshaho’ (2017) had opened with Rs 12.60 crore. ‘Awarapan 2’ has made both of them the fastest-opening films by getting rid of the six. There was a flood of tickets on BookMyShow – more than 20 thousand tickets were sold every hour. If this pace continues, then this film will easily cross the Rs 50 crore mark in the weekend.
How is the movie?
In this film directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi has once again become ‘Shivam Pandit’ – and his fans are loving this avatar. Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Suvinder Vicky also play important roles. The film has received mixed to good reviews, especially for Imran’s acting and the dark-comedy atmosphere of the film.
Status of ‘Partition 1947’ – What were the earnings?
Now let’s talk about Sunny Deol’s film. ‘Partition 1947’ collected a net of Rs 5.75 crore in India on the first day. Including gross collection of 6.84 crores and 1.50 crores from abroad, the total worldwide earnings were 8.34 crores. That means ‘Awarapan 2’ earned more in India alone than the entire worldwide earnings of ‘Bantwara’.
However, the film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is definitely attracting serious audiences due to its subject matter – the backdrop of the partition of India. Apart from Sunny Deol, names of Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Mithun Chakraborty and Aamir Khan (as producer) are associated with the film.
AR Rahman’s music and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are the strengths of the film, but these strengths fell short at the box office. Talking about the occupancy, it was 7.54% in the morning show, which increased to around 10-12% by the evening, but these figures are much lower compared to ‘Awarapan 2’.
