Teachers Promotion: Good news for teachers. After nearly a decade, the wait for teachers in council schools across the state to receive promotions seems to be ending. The Basic Education Council has instructed all Basic Education Officers (BSAs) to compile seniority lists within their districts. This move is expected to benefit around 70,000 teachers.
Teachers have reported a lack of promotions in council schools since 2016. Promotions typically involve teachers advancing to headmaster roles in primary schools or assistant teacher positions in upper primary schools. Likewise, headmasters and assistant teachers from council schools often move up to headmaster roles in upper primary schools.
Out of the state’s 3.30 lakh teachers, approximately 70,000 are set to be promoted. The Right to Education Act (RTE) mandates a specific ratio of headmasters per students in council and upper primary schools. Basic Education Council Secretary Surendra Tiwari has instructed BSAs to compile seniority lists for promotion within their districts.
The seniority lists need to be completed within three weeks, with a deadline of October 23rd for submission to the council office. Promotion procedures are expected to commence in November. Shiv Shankar Singh, state president of the National Educational Federation, and Brijesh Srivastava, state media in-charge, highlighted the prolonged demand for promotions by teachers, who will now finally see this materialize.
