Bank Holiday- Why Will Banks Remain Closed on Thursday? Check Here

Bank Holiday: Banks will be closed tomorrow, Thursday. If you’re planning to visit a bank branch on October 29th, first check whether banks are open in your state. Based on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, banks will be closed in certain states tomorrow, Thursday. Here’s a breakdown of which states will have closures tomorrow and the reasons behind them.

Will banks be closed tomorrow, Thursday?

According to the RBI calendar, banks will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, October 29th. Himachal Pradesh will experience bank closures due to Karva Chauth. All public and private sector banks, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara, Axis, HDFC, and ICICI, will be shut. That said, banks in all other states throughout the country, except Himachal Pradesh, will stay open despite Karva Chauth.

Banks will continue operating tomorrow in many states, such as Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh. Banks won’t experience closures in these areas because of Karva Chauth.

Karva Chauth is an important Hindu festival observed by married women, particularly across North India. On this occasion, women fast from sunrise until moonrise, offering prayers for their husbands’ longevity, wellness, and marital happiness. Several mythological tales are connected to Karva Chauth. The story of Veeravati stands out among them—in this tale, her brothers deceived her by claiming the moon had risen, and when she broke her fast, her husband faced danger. Eventually, through Veeravati’s sincere prayers and commitment, her husband was restored to life.

This narrative highlights the significance and devotion associated with the fast. During Karva Chauth, women consume Sargi in the morning, abstain from food all day, and in the evening, they pray to Karva Mata, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and the Moon. When the moon rises, they offer water to it, and then, after looking at their husband’s face, they break their fast by drinking water from his hands.
