Indian Railways Rule: This is very important news for train passengers. The Railway Board has directed strict adherence to the instructions to keep mobile charging points off in train coaches from 11 pm to 5 am. Keeping charging points off during this time will be mandatory, and no exemptions will be granted. In a directive issued on October 26, the Railway Board has asked all zonal railways to ensure compliance with this arrangement.
Charging points in trains were closed due to this reason
The Railway Board’s directive comes after a passenger’s power bank exploded and smoke began to billow while charging on the South Eastern Railway (SER). According to the board, the charging points on the train in question were not turned off during the designated time. Consequently, the power bank exploded and smoke began to billow while charging. Following this incident, the railway has decided to tighten security measures.
Following the strict guidelines from 2014
The Railway Board referenced an earlier directive issued on June 19, 2014, in its correspondence. That directive also required that mobile charging stations in train compartments be switched off from 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. The Board has now instructed all regional railways to put this requirement into practice.
Employee responsibility will be established
The Railway Board has additionally communicated that proper guidelines, combined with suitable training and support, will be shared with the relevant personnel to guarantee that safety protocols are upheld. In addition, unannounced checks will be performed at both officer and management levels to verify adherence to these guidelines.
Fire safety concerns
This action by the Railways seeks to minimize the danger of fires and electrical incidents aboard trains. Travelers should be ready for the chance that charging facilities in the compartment may not be accessible during the specified six-hour overnight window.
