Bank Holiday Update: There is a big update for bank customers. If you’re planning a visit to the bank on July 4th (Saturday), it’s advisable to check if banks are open on weekends. Many individuals are unsure about bank operations on Saturdays. Determining whether a Saturday is a regular working day or a holiday can be challenging in India. The country observes bank holidays that vary by state and are often linked to local festivities, religious occasions, and regional events.
Here’s the status for today
– Banks are open today as it’s the first Saturday of the month.
– In India, banks typically close on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, known as Saturday Bank Holidays. However, they operate on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month unless specified as holidays by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar.
Today, major public and private banks like State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Union Bank of India are offering regular services at their branches.

Bank closures occur on the following days according to RBI regulations:
– Second Saturday of each month
– Fourth Saturday of each month
– Every Sunday
– National Holidays
– Regional and religious festivals as announced by the states
Festival holidays differ among states, so it’s wise to verify your state’s holiday schedule before planning a bank visit.
Banking services remain accessible even during closures. Customers can utilize digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile apps, UPI payments, ATM transactions, and online fund transfers (NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS) on days when physical branches are shut. This ensures that most essential banking transactions can be carried out online, even when branch offices are not operational.
