Bank Holiday: Big news for bank customers. If you’re planning to complete any important bank-related work on October 10th or 11th, be sure to check bank holidays first. Banks nationwide will be closed on Saturday, October 10th, the second Saturday of the month. October 11th, being a Sunday, will be a weekly holiday. Consequently, bank branches will be closed for two consecutive days.
Bank Holiday on Second Saturday, October 10
Following Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, bank branches shut down on the second and fourth Saturdays each month. On Saturday, October 10th, banks will be closed in accordance with this policy. Additionally, October 10th coincides with Mahalaya Amavasya, which could trigger a regional holiday in certain regions. That said, whether banks close for Mahalaya depends on individual state regulations and the RBI’s official holiday calendar.
Bank Holiday on Sunday, October 11
Bank branches nationwide will remain closed on Sunday, October 11th, as part of the standard weekly holiday schedule. Customers who need to visit bank branches for cash withdrawals, check processing, or other banking needs over these two consecutive days might encounter inconvenience.
Digital Banking Services Remain Active
While physical bank branches are closed, customers can still access digital banking options including mobile apps, online banking platforms, UPI transfers, and ATM services. Keep in mind that check processing and certain counter transactions might take longer to process. To avoid complications, it’s wise to handle your important banking requirements ahead of time.

On October 19, banks are scheduled to remain closed in several cities, including Agartala, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi and Shillong, due to Maha Ashtami and Durga Puja.
October 20 will see bank holidays in several states on account of Dussehra or Vijayadashami. The exact list of locations observing the holiday may vary, so customers should verify the applicable schedule in their state.
On October 21, banks will remain closed in Agartala, Bengaluru, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram due to Vijayadashami and related Durga Puja or Dasain celebrations.
Banks in Gangtok will also remain closed on October 22 and 23 for Durga Puja and Dasain-related festivities.
On October 26, bank branches in Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar are scheduled to remain closed for regional occasions, including Lakshmi Puja, Accession Day and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.
In Shimla, banks will remain closed on October 29 on account of Karva Chauth. Meanwhile, bank branches in Ahmedabad will observe a holiday on October 31 for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti. October 31 is also the fifth Saturday of the month, which is ordinarily a working day for banks under the standard Saturday-holiday schedule, so the applicable regional holiday is the key factor.
