Ayushman Card Fraud: The central government operates the Ayushman Bharat scheme to address health-related issues faced by the public. Under this scheme, Ayushman cards are issued exclusively to eligible individuals, granting them access to free medical treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh. Currently, however, some fraudsters are attempting to scam people by misusing the name of this scheme. They may demand payment for the issuance or updating of an Ayushman card, or call individuals to solicit OTPs and bank account details.

It is crucial to remain vigilant. The official PMJAY-UP (Ayushman Uttar Pradesh) platform on X (formerly Twitter) has issued a warning, advising the public to exercise caution. It explicitly states that one should not pay any unknown person for the issuance of an Ayushman card, nor should any personal information be shared with them.

Ayushman Cards are issued free of charge.
If anyone asks you for money to obtain an Ayushman card, be on your guard immediately. There is no requirement to pay anyone to get this card. You should verify your eligibility through the official platform; do not, under any circumstances, trust an unknown individual.

Ayushman cards are issued based on eligibility criteria.
An Ayushman card is not automatically generated for every individual; one must meet the eligibility criteria established by the government. If someone claims they can get an Ayushman card made for you, do not fall for it. You can verify your eligibility by visiting the official Ayushman Bharat website.

Beware of Fraudulent Calls and Messages
Nowadays, fraudsters often call people, claiming to represent a government scheme, and state that their Ayushman card is about to be deactivated. They will urge you to update it immediately and ask for an OTP. Do not fall for these claims. Never share an OTP with any unknown person. Furthermore, do not click on any links provided in messages, and avoid disclosing your bank details or other sensitive information.

Where to File a Complaint?
If someone demands money from you in the name of your Ayushman card, be aware that it is likely a fraudulent call. In such cases, you can file a complaint by calling the helpline numbers 14555 or 1800-11-1565. Alternatively, you can also lodge a complaint online by visiting the PM-JAY grievance portal.
