Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater SUV – Every major brand is preparing to launch powerful SUVs in the Indian SUV market. In this series, Volkswagen is now bringing its largest and most premium SUV to India. Its name is the Volkswagen Tayron – a 7-seater SUV that will directly challenge segment leaders like the Toyota Fortuner. With German engineering, a sporty R-Line look, and a powerful engine, the Tayron’s entry is considered a major step in itself.

Volkswagen Tayron
Volkswagen India recently shared a small teaser video, confirming that the upcoming SUV is none other than the Volkswagen Tayron. Its launch is believed to be scheduled in Q1 2026 and this SUV will be positioned directly above the Tiguan R-Line.
Tayron can be called Volkswagen’s new flagship SUV. That is, features, size and road presentation – in all three cases it will be the top seating car of the brand. After launch, it will directly compete with Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Motor Gloster and Jeep Meridian.

Design
Talking about design, Tayron is very similar to Tiguan, but it has many elements that make it more fresh and premium. Sleek dual-pod LED headlamps are found on the front side, which are connected to full-width LED light strip.

The teaser also has the illuminated Volkswagen logo on both the front and back, which distinguishes the SUV at night. Backward connected tail lamps are given, although their lighting pattern is kept separate from Tiguan.
India-spec Tayron will come in R-Line guise, so it will see 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss black and red sporty detailing exactly as if there is a performance-focused SUV.

Interior
Tayron’s premium character glances clean as he steps inside the cabin. The international model offers a large infotainment system of 15-inch, one of the largest screens in segment. It is also given a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster.
The SUV offers advanced safety features such as 3-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and ADAS. Premium Harman Kardon audio system has also been provided for music lovers, which makes long trips more fun.

Engine and Performance
Volkswagen Tayron is built on the MQB EVO platform. In India it will be launched with 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine generates power of 204 hp and torque of 320 Nm.

This will be accompanied by a 7-speed DSG gearbox, which is known for smooth and quick shifts. It is expected that Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD system will also be provided, making it feel confident in the SUV highway as well as light off-roading.

Expected Price and Launch Timeline
Volkswagen Tayron will be sold in India from CKD route. For this reason its price is expected to be premium. It is estimated that its ex-showroom price may be between ₹45 to ₹5 million.
Talking about Launch timeline, the company has confirmed Q1 2026. That is, Fortuner is going to get a new and serious rival at the beginning of the coming year.
