TATA Punch Flex Fuel: At the 2025 India Mobility Expo, Tata Motors made waves with the unveiling of its Punch Flex Fuel Concept, signaling a pivotal transformation in the company’s approach to sustainable mobility.
What is special about the car
This innovative model retains the design elements of the existing petrol variant, ensuring familiarity for consumers, while introducing a significant enhancement that aligns with global trends towards greener alternatives. The Punch Flex Fuel is now capable of operating on both E85 ethanol—a blend containing 85% ethanol and 15% petrol—and pure E100 ethanol, positioning it as a forward-thinking and environmentally friendly choice for eco-conscious drivers.
Features
Under the hood, the Punch Flex Fuel is powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that has garnered praise in the petrol variants. However, this engine has been thoughtfully modified to withstand the more corrosive properties of ethanol, ensuring durability and reliability. This means that the vehicle can efficiently run on 100% ethanol without any performance issues, making it a versatile option for consumers looking to reduce their carbon footprint. Despite the changes made to accommodate ethanol, the power and torque specifications remain consistent with the petrol variant, delivering a robust 86bhp and 115Nm of torque. This ensures that drivers can enjoy a spirited driving experience without compromising on performance.
In terms of transmission options, the Punch Flex Fuel will be available with both a 5-speed manual and an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), catering to a wide range of driving preferences. The inclusion of these transmission options enhances the overall driving experience, allowing for smooth gear shifts and greater control on the road.
What is flex fuel?
Flex fuel vehicles like the Tata Punch are designed with a unique engine configuration that enables them to utilize a blend of ethanol and petrol. Ethanol, a renewable biofuel primarily derived from agricultural products such as wheat, maize, and sugarcane, serves as a viable alternative to traditional petrol. By incorporating ethanol into the fuel mix, the Punch Flex Fuel contributes to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower pollution levels, and enhanced energy conservation. This aligns with global efforts to transition towards more sustainable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
