Tata Punch EV vs Mahindra eKUV100 : In today’s world when the prices of petrol and diesel are skyrocketing, electric vehicles have become a great option. In India, people are now moving rapidly towards not only big cars, but also affordable and compact electric SUVs. In this episode, two big names come to the fore – Tata Punch EV and Mahindra eKUV100.
On one hand there is Tata’s Punch EV, which is the electric avatar of the Punch car, which has already become very popular in the market. On the other hand, there is Mahindra eKUV100, which is considered to be Mahindra’s affordable and small electric SUV. If you are wondering which of these two vehicles is better for you, then let’s compare the two in easy language in this post.
Design and Look
The design of the Tata Punch EV is similar to the already existing Punch, but some changes are seen in it which make it futuristic. The front has a closed grille, LED headlights and a new bumper which makes it more stylish.
Talking about Mahindra eKUV100, its look is simple and a bit boxy. The company has not given much show-off design in it. Although it is compact, it may look less attractive than Tata Punch EV.
Interior and Features
In the interior of Tata Punch EV, you get smart options like digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and connected car features. Its cabin quality also looks premium and seating comfort is also good.
The interior of Mahindra eKUV100 has been kept simple. It has a small touchscreen, manual AC, and basic features. If you do not want too many features and are looking for a simple car, then it may fit you. But it is slightly behind in features compared to Tata Punch EV.
Battery and range
The Tata Punch EV comes in two variants – one has a 25kWh battery which gives a range of up to 315km, and the other has a 35kWh battery which gives a range of about 421km. This vehicle is built on Ziptron technology, which has become a special identity of Tata.
On the other hand, Mahindra eKUV100 gets a 15.9kWh battery, which gives a range of about 147km once fully charged. This range is good for urban driving, but may fall short for long distances.
Charging time
The Tata Punch EV can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 56 minutes with a fast charger, and it takes about 8-9 hours with a normal charger.
Mahindra eKUV100 can be fully charged in about 5-6 hours with normal charging, but it does not have the option of fast charging, which can be considered a drawback in today’s time.
Performance and Driving Experience
The electric motor in Tata Punch EV gives good performance. Its drive is smooth and silent. This car seems very perfect to drive in the city and it also has drive modes like Eco, City and Sport.
The motor of Mahindra eKUV100 is not that powerful, but it also works well for everyday tasks in the city. Its steering is light and the car is compact, making it easy to drive in traffic.
Price and Value for Money
The price of Tata Punch EV starts at around ₹ 10.99 lakh and the price of its top variant goes up to ₹ 15.49 lakh. Its price is a bit high, but considering the range, features and technology it offers, it becomes a good package.
The Mahindra eKUV100 has been priced at around ₹ 8.25 lakh, making it the cheapest electric SUV in India. Although it has slightly less features and range, it can be liked by many people as a budget-friendly option.
Which car is better for you?
If you want a future-ready, stylish and more range-giving electric SUV and your budget is above ₹ 11 lakh, then the Tata Punch EV can be the best choice for you.
But if you want to buy a low-budget electric vehicle that is only for inside the city, then the Mahindra eKUV100 can be a better option for you.
