Tata EV: Tata Motors is poised to rock the SUV and electric vehicle market with a belligerent product strategy. With a reputation for selling the largest number of electric vehicles in India, Tata is gearing up to introduce a number of budget-friendly models, both petrol-diesel and electric, between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh.

Tata’s Aggressive Strategy

Tata Motors has unveiled a robust investment strategy of ₹33,000 to ₹35,000 crore for the next five years. In this strategy, 30 new vehicles will enter the market. This is done to consolidate Tata’s grip in both the conventional and electric vehicle markets and push competition against players such as Mahindra and MG.

2:2:2 EV Strategy

To fight increasing competition, Tata has launched its exclusive 2:2:2 EV plan. The firm will bring in two models in every segment — entry-level, mid, and premium — so that there is a Tata EV for every kind of customer.

Tata’s Electric Line-up

In the luxury segment, Tata unveiled the Harrier EV recently and is set to launch the Sierra EV in the near future. For budget buyers, Tiago EV and Punch EV still hold sway, with Tata achieving a market share of 75% in this space. In the mid-segment, Nexon EV is doing well, while the Curvv EV, which is going to be launched in the future, will bring in more firepower.

Future-Ready EV Architecture

Tata’s Gen 3 skateboard, the next-generation EV architecture, will drive its premium EV model Avinya, which will be launched in 2027. The highly anticipated Altroz EV is also around the corner and might share the powertrain with Punch EV.

Coming Compact EVs

In order to keep its 50% market share in the EV segment, Tata is developing two new compact electric vehicles, Kuno and Terra. While their release dates and prices are not known yet, they will aim at price-conscious EV consumers.

Hybrid SUV

Besides EVs, Tata is also planning to introduce a hybrid SUV (codename REX/REV) in the Indian market. The hybrid SUV is expected to arrive in 2027 or 2028, providing a combination of performance and fuel economy to Indian customers.
