The subcompact SUV market is heating up, and Skoda is all ready to hit again. With value-for-money SUVs gaining traction, the company is preparing to introduce a new, lower price variant of its bestseller Kylaq. The move is considered a calculated strategy to attract price-conscious buyers in a highly competitive segment.
Launch Schedule of New Variant and Price Difference Expectations
Skoda’s new Kylaq trim will be placed between the existing Classic and Signature variants. Both are currently separated by ₹1.60 lakh (ex-showroom), which gives a good window for this new variant to slot in without intruding on either. While the company has not made any official announcement regarding the launch date, it is said to arrive sometime later this year.
Available Variants and Pricing Range
The Kylaq is already on offer in different trims like Classic, Classic Gold Olive, Signature, Signature Dual Tone, Signature Plus, Signature Plus Lava Blue, and Prestige. Prices start at ₹8.25 lakh and go up to ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), providing a number of alternatives for SUV customers. The new trim should bridge the gap and attract more customers with a less feature-heavy package but at a lower price tag.
Features Expected in the New Variant
The new model should be equipped with necessary safety features such as ABS, 6 airbags, and traction control system. LED headlamps with DRLs and ISOFIX child seat mounts, being a necessity for families and city driving, will also be present in it.
Premium Features at Non-Premium Prices
To further amplify the SUV’s attractiveness, some of the features from the higher Signature trim can be added to the lower trims. These may involve highway convenience cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring for improved safety, and infotainment enhancements like Android Auto, wired Apple CarPlay, and a 7-inch touch screen system. These would add the SUV’s value proposition without diluting budget constraints.
Market Strategy
Placing this new variant in the sweet spot between price and feature, Skoda plans to challenge segment leaders Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. With SUVs accounting for an increasing share of auto sales, the move can potentially increase Skoda’s positioning significantly in the marketplace.
