The popularity of 7-seater vehicles persists among Indian families, and May 2025 is proof of the same. Without any update or launch in sight, one old friend has again topped the sales chart. Let’s discover which models topped this month’s list and why.

Ertiga Leads the Pack Once Again

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained its winning momentum and led the 7-seater sales list. The Ertiga sold 16,140 units, a 16 percent year-on-year growth in comparison to May 2024, where it sold 13,893 units. At an affordable price of ₹8.96 lakh (ex-showroom), the MPV continues to be a popular option among large families. Its steady performance reflects its popularity in the value-for-money section.

Scorpio Retains Second Position

Mahindra Scorpio held on to its second spot with 14,401 units sold, a 5 percent growth year on year. Scorpio still enjoys healthy demand in both city and semi-city areas because of its tough styling and road presence.

Bolero and Innova Trail Behind

Mahindra Bolero came third with 8,942 units sold, recording an 11 percent increase in sales annually. Toyota Innova was very close behind with 8,882 units and a growth rate of 4 percent. Both the cars are established brands in the utility and premium MPV segments respectively.

XUV700 Displays Excellent Growth

Mahindra’s XUV700 took everyone by surprise by posting the maximum year-on-year growth among the top 10—28 percent. It sold 6,435 units in May 2025, indicating that the SUV is gradually moving up the popularity charts due to its features and performance.

Kia Carens Experiences a Decline

Whereas most models experienced growth, Kia Carens lost out with a 15 percent slide in sales. Just 4,524 units found buyers that month, indicating shifting customer tastes or increased competition in the segment.

Other Segment Top Sellers

Maruti Suzuki XL6 took the seventh position with 3,507 units at an 8 percent growth annually. Toyota Fortuner took the eighth position with 2,571 units and a 6 percent growth. Toyota Rumion took the ninth position with 1,917 units, while Tata Safari completed the list in the tenth position with 1,109 units. But Safari experienced a dramatic 33 percent decline in year-over-year sales.

Price and Practicality Keep the Segment Going

Affordability continues to be a strong reason for the success of the segment. With models like Ertiga available for less than ₹9 lakh and others with roomy cabins and good fuel efficiency, customers continue to favour 7-seaters as functional family cars.
