Nissan Tekton Launch: Japanese car manufacturer Nissan India is making a major move to compete directly with established vehicles like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara in the Indian midsize SUV market. Following the discontinuation of its Kicks SUV in 2023, the company is set to unveil its all-new and highly muscular SUV, the Nissan Tekton, in India for the first time on July 9, 2026.

Built on the robust CMF-B platform of the renowned Renault Duster under the Renault-Nissan Alliance, the vehicle is poised to win over Indian customers not only with its aggressive international design but also with its powerful 163-horsepower turbocharged petrol engine and Level-2 ADS safety shield.

Excellent Powertrain and Performance

The Nissan Tekton’s engine and technical architecture will be fully shared with the upcoming new-gen Duster, offering customers an unparalleled combination of steel-like strength and excellent refinement. The car will begin with a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 100 PS of maximum power and 160 Nm of torque, offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

For speed enthusiasts, its second-most powerful 1.3-liter direct-injection turbo engine will be a boon, generating a blistering 163 PS of power and a massive 280 Nm of torque. This powerhouse is paired with a 6-speed manual as well as a highly advanced 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

Furthermore, to help mileage enthusiasts avoid the high cost of petrol, the company may also add a powerful 160-horsepower 1.8-liter hybrid engine in the future, providing a seamless and robust fuel economy.

Exterior Styling

In terms of appearance, the Nissan Tekton has been given a distinct and unique look from its partner, the Duster. The exterior of this SUV is inspired by Nissan’s global flagship, the luxurious and spacious Nissan Patrol, which is why it’s affectionately called the “Baby Patrol.” Its aggressive front profile features a wide grille with two striking chrome strips, connected LED DRLs, and a rugged dual-tone bumper that establishes its imposing road presence from afar.

The side profile features strong flared wheel arches to counter rough terrain and distinctive black trim on the front doors. To give the car a sporty look, the rear door handles are cleverly hidden within the window frames, giving it a sporty appearance from a distance. Additionally, it features distinctive 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The rear features gleaming connected LED taillights spanning the entire width, a roof spoiler, and a clean, single-tone finish on the trunk door, which enhances its VIP aesthetics.

Interior and Features

As you step inside the Nissan Tekton’s cabin, you’ll find a refreshingly premium dashboard layout, completely different from the Duster. The entire interior is adorned with modern materials and contrasting metallic accents, creating a luxurious feel akin to sitting inside a luxury vehicle. At the center of the dashboard is a large 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in features, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay without any wires.

For driver convenience, a sleek 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster is provided at the front, displaying live, up-to-the-minute vehicle information, including navigation. To beat the scorching Indian summer, it will feature advanced gadgets like 6-way powered ventilated front seats with cooling functions, a luxurious panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control with two different temperature settings, and a powered tailgate.

Safety

Nissan is making no compromises on safety with this flagship vehicle. The Tecton will be equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree surround-view camera for 360-degree passenger safety, ensuring 360-degree manoeuvrability and easy maneuvering in tight parking spaces.

Furthermore, it will also feature a state-of-the-art Level 2 ADAS safety suite, which provides a strong security blanket for your entire family with features like automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist while driving on the highway.

Expected Price & Market Rivals

Since Nissan will be manufacturing this vehicle locally at the Renault-Nissan Alliance facility in Chennai with heavy localization, its pricing is expected to be very aggressive. According to auto experts, the Nissan Tekton’s starting price, ex-showroom, could be within the very competitive budget range of ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.49 lakh.

Following its global debut on July 9, 2026, the company is expected to launch it in Indian showrooms around the upcoming festive season. Upon its arrival, this powerful SUV will face direct and fierce competition from segment kingpins like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris, and the Tata Sierra EV.
