Kia Clavis: The Indian MPV space is in for a significant overhaul, with three new models from Kia, MG, and Nissan in the pipeline to enter. Providing a combination of electric powertrains, luxury touches, and aggressive pricing, these new entrants are set to expand choices for customers across segments.
Kia Carens Clavis EV
Kia is set to add its Carens range with the all-electric Clavis EV, which will arrive next month. Following the success of the Clavis ICE, the electric variant will bring slight exterior refinements and an feature-packed interior. Slated in the midsize MPV segment, the Clavis EV will take cues from the soon-to-launch Hyundai Creta Electric.
Kia will likely market the Clavis EV in two battery options, both of which will yield a driving distance of more than 450 km on a single charge. The MPV will feature upscale touches such as a big screen, digital instrument panel, panoramic sunroof, air-conditioned seats, automatic climate control, various airbags, and Level 2 ADAS.
MG M9 – A New Benchmark in Electric Luxury
MG is getting set to launch the M9 electric MPV, a brand-new luxury car that will be retailed through its standalone ‘MG Select’ dealerships. The M9 will have a starting price of more than ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom) and will place itself as a high-end option in the MPV space.
Designed with refinement at its core, the M9 will be underpinned by a 90 kWh battery producing 245 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. It will have a WLTP-certified range of approximately 430 km. Options include powered doors, double-glazed sunroofs, reclining ottoman-style seats, and top cabin tech for comfort-hungry buyers. Although its shape is comparable to that of the Kia Carnival, its electric powertrain puts it in a unique category.
Nissan’s New Compact MPV
Nissan’s new MPV will be developed on the Renault Kiger’s CMF-A+ platform and will be manufactured at its Tamil Nadu plant. It will be aimed at the cost-sensitive segment and provide high local content for competitive prices.
Engine options will comprise a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and a turbo-petrol option. The new MPV will see Nissan introducing its new design language, which differentiates the variant visually in the segment. Expect it to reach India ahead of the company’s next-five seater SUV that will compete against the Hyundai Creta.
Production and Launch Timelines
Kia’s Clavis EV is forthcoming next month, as is MG’s M9 and Nissan’s MPV, a compact model. Each of the three will be in the market before early 2026, keeping the competition going in several price segments.
