Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce a special retro-fit kit for old petrol vehicles. Vehicles up to 15 years old will be enabled to use E20 fuel, enabling owners to cut costs and decrease emissions.

Government’s Push for E20 Fuel

The government is working to reduce petrol dependency and promote alternative fuels. E20 is a big step in this direction. It means petrol mixed with 20% ethanol. This blend makes fuel cheaper and cleaner. Most new cars now support E20, and the next goal is to move towards E50. Ethanol helps lower pollution while keeping running costs low for vehicle owners.

Maruti’s E20 Upgrade Kit for Old Cars

As per reports, Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce E20 upgrade kits for its older models in the near future. These kits may be made available for cars that are 10 years old or even 15 years old. The rumored price range is between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000, depending on the model. Information regarding any subsidy on these kits is not available as of yet.

How the E20 Kit Works

To adapt old cars for E20 fuel, some components will be replaced. These are fuel lines, rubber, metal, and plastic seals and gaskets. The engine will require retuning as well. By doing this, older cars will be able to run on E20 fuel without any performance loss.

What is E20 Fuel?

The E20 fuel is a mixture of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol. Ethanol is produced by fermenting sugar, and it is a biofuel. India’s ethanol blending policy is intended to decrease the consumption of fossil fuels. Gradually, the ratio of mixing will go up to E50. With lesser petrol in the mix, consumers get cheaper fuel.
