The segment of compact SUVs has never failed to draw Indian consumers, and now three of the industry’s biggest players, Maruti, Hyundai, and Mahindra, are all readying new models that will deliver style, efficiency, and innovation. If you’re looking to take home a new compact SUV in the near future, you might consider waiting just a little bit longer.
Hyundai Venue
Hyundai is preparing the new generation of its extremely popular compact SUV, Venue. The facelift model has already been seen a few times on Indian roads undergoing trials, which means that its arrival is near. The 2025 Hyundai Venue will carry significant exterior design updates and a newer cabin filled with amenities. Though, there is no significant change anticipated in its powertrain configuration, indicating that it will maintain the existing powertrains. According to media reports, the new Venue may enter the showroom shelves by the end of this year.
Mahindra Gears Up for XUV 3XO EV
Mahindra is gearing up to add to its electric portfolio with the all-new XUV 3XO EV, which has reached the final stages of testing. This upcoming compact electric SUV is expected to sit below the XUV400 in Mahindra’s EV portfolio. Once launched, it will directly compete with the Tata Punch EV in the segment. While exact specs are yet to be confirmed, expectations are high for a driving range of around 400 km on a single charge — a solid number for city and highway use.
Maruti’s Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up with a hybrid variant of its best-selling Fronx. The car has been spotted doing test runs recently, pointing towards its release soon. The hybrid Fronx is likely to hit the market by the end of this year. It could be driven by a 1.2L Z12E petrol motor coupled with a hybrid system, offering it a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative in the segment of compact SUVs. This addition could boost Maruti’s already strong position in the market.
Electric vs Hybrid What to Expect
While Mahindra is going all-electric and Maruti is taking a hybrid path, consumers will soon get to choose between two frugal, environmentally friendly models. The electric XUV 3XO can be more suitable for customers who require zero-emission driving and greater range, while the hybrid Fronx makes it easy for consumers who are not yet ready to make a complete switch to electric.
