Kia Sonet 2027 First Look – New Seltos-Inspired Design, Hybrid Option, 5-Star Safety Aim

If you’ve been waiting for a subcompact SUV that’s both impressive in looks and exceptional in features, the latest glimpse of the Next-Gen Kia Sonet 2027 will blow your mind. The new Kia Sonet, spied testing on Indian roads again, is not only stunning with its futuristic design, but the company has also masterminded a plan to address its biggest shortcoming—rear seat space.

This car, which has challenged rivals like the Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon, is now returning in a new avatar, aiming for a 5-star safety rating and promising a powerful hybrid engine.

New and Aggressive Design

Kia is now giving its small SUV a look reminiscent of its larger, premium cars. The new Sonet’s design is based on Kia’s global design language, largely inspired by the new Seltos. Despite its massive camouflage, its front fascia features a massive grille that spans the entire width. The headlight design is reminiscent of the new-generation Hyundai Venue, but the ‘eyebrow’-style LED DRLs above it give it a distinct identity.

The car features all-new alloy wheels and smooth lines on the bonnet, giving it a premium look. At the rear, revised LED taillights and a sunroof are clearly visible. However, it remains unclear whether Kia will offer a panoramic sunroof like its new car, the ‘Cyros’, or retain the single-pane unit like the outgoing model.

Platform Changes

The current Kia Sonet has been criticized for its limited rear seat space, but this time Kia has addressed this issue head-on. The next-generation Sonet will now be based on the new K1 architecture, replacing the old K2 platform. This same platform also powers the Hyundai Venue and Kia Ceros, which is known for its superior strength and cabin space.

The biggest benefit of this platform change will be improved legroom and shoulder room for rear passengers. Furthermore, Kia aims to achieve a 5-star safety rating in the India NCAP this time around. Regarding the interior, the dashboard will be completely redesigned, featuring premium materials, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and a digital driver display.

Engine and Power

Kia will retain its trusted engine options, but a major surprise is also expected to be added to the lineup. The new Sonet will continue to be offered with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine (83 hp), a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine (120 hp) for speed enthusiasts, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 hp) for long-distance travel. Manual and automatic gearbox options will remain the same.

Another big news is that Kia is working on a strong hybrid version based on the 1.2-liter petrol engine. While this engine won’t be available at launch, it could be introduced around 2028 or 2029. This hybrid technology will not only reduce pollution but also set new benchmarks in terms of mileage.

Safety and Advanced Technology

Kia is no longer compromising on safety. With a new platform and strong chassis, the Sonet is poised to become one of the safest cars in the segment. While it will feature luxury features like ventilated seats, wireless charging, and a premium sound system, the real buzz lies in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). To maintain its premium appeal, Kia is expected to offer ADAS Level 2 in the Sonet’s top-end models, making driving safer and easier.
