8th Pay Commission- Defence Civilian Employees Want Equal Pay with Railway Workers

The employees have to perform extremely sensitive and risky work in the manufacture of arms, ammunition, explosives and hazardous chemicals.

8th Pay Commission: The expectations of government employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission are steadily rising. In the meantime, the All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF), which represents defense civilian employees, has put forth several significant demands to the government.

During a meeting in New Delhi, the organization expressed that defense employees should receive salaries, promotions, and other benefits similar to those of railway employees. They argue that civilian employees serve in both the Railways and the Defense Ministry, yet railway employees enjoy superior pay scales and benefits. Hence, this disparity should be addressed.

Demand for minimum salary of Rs 69 thousand

AIDEF has requested that the 8th Pay Commission increase the minimum salary for entry-level employees to Rs 69,000. They also called for the implementation of a 3.83 fitment factor. If this is realized, millions of employees could experience a substantial salary boost.

Demand for increase in allowances

The organization pointed out that defense personnel are often in proximity to weapons, ammunition, and hazardous chemicals, putting them at risk of accidents. Despite this, they do not receive the same risk and hardship allowances as uniformed soldiers. Therefore, they have requested a monthly risk allowance of 15,000 rupees.

Demand for 2 crore compensation for death in accident

AIDEF further mentioned that the families of employees who lose their lives in duty-related accidents currently receive only 2.5 million rupees, which they believe should be raised to 2 crore rupees. They also demanded that these employees be recognized with martyr status.

Emphasis on promotion and OPS too

The organization has called for a minimum of five promotions for Group B and Group C employees within a span of 30 years of service. Additionally, they have urged the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), enhancements to CGHS facilities, and extra benefits for women and disabled employees. Employees are now concentrating on the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission.
