India’s First 7-Seater Electric MPV

Kia Clavis EV is in the news as India’s first 7-seater electric MPV. The vehicle will be launched on July 15 and is set to provide comfort as well as value. This electric version of the highly popular Kia Carens is being introduced as a family EV that is affordable.

Range of Up to 490 Km

Kia Clavis EV can be offered with two battery versions. The pricier model might receive a 51.4 kWh battery that claims to deliver approximately 490 km. The lower version can possess a 42 kWh battery that still returns up to 400 km. Motor details haven’t been announced by Kia, but the vehicle is rumored to have power in the range of 135 to 170 PS with front-wheel-drive.

Comfort and Convenience

This 7-seater electric vehicle is also likely to feature ventilated and powered driver seats, dual-zone auto AC, wireless charging for front and rear occupants, and a panoramic sunroof. The rearview mirror shall be auto-dimming for improved night driving safety.

Strong Safety with ADAS Tech

Safety will be an integral feature of this EV. Kia can feature six airbags, 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, and sensors at both ends. Features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, and automatic emergency braking will also be featured in this new vehicle.

EV-Specific Design Changes

The overall design of Kia Clavis EV will be the same as the present Kia Carens but with electric-exclusive changes. These are a closed front grille with charging port, LED light bar at the rear, new alloy wheels, and reworked bumpers in order to distinguish it clearly from its petrol and diesel counterpart.

Price in India

The anticipated starting price of Kia Clavis EV is approximately ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom). Although it doesn’t have any direct competitor in the 7-seater EV segment currently, it can potentially compete with 5-seater EVs such as MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti e-Vitara based on price and range.
