Hyundai Exter: In 2025, the micro SUV space is abuzz with two hot names—Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. Both vehicles pack style, features, and practicality within ₹10 lakh and are serious threats to the budget buyer in India. Every SUV has been created to serve the needs of city dwellers and also to take care of family chores and weekend getaways. But when the design, features, and performance are concerned, which vehicle really provides better value?

Design and Road Presence

Hyundai Exter boasts a space-age design with H-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, a broad grille, and an imposing stance that sets it apart. It lends a spartan car the look of a contemporary SUV. Tata Punch, in contrast, has a more muscular and aggressive appearance. It comes across as tougher and possesses stronger road presence, which is attractive to customers who desire bold design in a compact car. Though the two cars are good-looking in their own right, Exter is inclined toward sleek sophistication, while Punch is suited for those who like their SUV to be flashier and rougher.

Engine and Performance

Under the bonnet, Hyundai Exter has a 1.2-litre petrol motor that is famous for silky smooth performance and refinement. It also offers a CNG variant, which gives fuel savings—a huge plus for everyday running.

Tata Punch also receives a 1.2-liter petrol engine, but it seems to be louder than the Exter. Punch does not have a CNG variant at the moment, which might be a deterrent for cost-conscious buyers. Both cars are offered with manual and AMT gearbox, so both are comfortable to drive in city traffic.

Features and Technology

Hyundai Exter obviously leads when it comes to features. It features a sunroof, wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, six airbags as standard, and connected car technology. These features make it a great value package in its class.

Tata Punch also features good things like a well-packaged infotainment system, dual airbags, and ABS. Most importantly, it has a 5-star safety rating from GNCAP, which is a big selling feature. Yet, Punch does lack sophisticated features such as a sunroof and connected technology, which puts Exter at an advantage.

Space and Comfort

Both vehicles offer good accommodation for four adults and reasonable boot space for day-to-day use. Tata Punch does feel a bit spacious due to its greater ground clearance, which also provides it with an actual SUV-like driving experience.

Hyundai Exter, even though small in size inside, impresses with its contemporary cabin design and tech-based interior orientation. Customers wanting extra comfort and rugged SUV feel might opt for Punch, whereas those who want luxury and technology will go for Exter.
