FASTag: A new annual toll pass for FASTag users will launch across India from August 15, 2025. Announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this scheme targets private vehicle owners who travel daily. It is not compulsory. Existing FASTag users can continue normal toll payments without any change. But for those considering the pass, there are specific rules to follow.
Who Can and Cannot Use the Pass
Only private, non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans are eligible. The vehicle must be verified in the VAHAN database. FASTag should be properly attached to the windshield. Vehicles with blacklisted registration numbers cannot use the pass. If your FASTag only has the chassis number registered, you must update it with a valid registration number first. Otherwise, you cannot apply for the pass.
Commercial vehicles are strictly excluded. If a commercial vehicle tries to use this pass, it will be cancelled immediately without notice. The pass is only valid on the vehicle it was registered for and cannot be transferred to any other vehicle.
Where the Pass Can Be Used
The FASTag annual pass will be accepted only on toll plazas of National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE). It will not be valid on tolls run by state governments or local bodies, such as State Highways (SH). If you try to use it on SH or local expressways, separate toll charges may apply.
Validity and Activation Details
Once payment of ₹3,000 is made, the pass will usually activate within two hours. It will remain valid for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. This means users can travel without paying toll at selected NH and NE toll plazas during this time. Once the limit ends, the annual pass will automatically convert back to a regular FASTag, and normal toll charges will apply again.
