CNG SUVs In india: Demand for CNG vehicles in India has picked up over the last couple of years. The change from diesel to cleaner, cheaper options has led to a CNG boom. With the recent introduction of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG, more manufacturers are joining in. Now, three new CNG SUVs are set to arrive in the Indian market, all derived from already successful petrol versions. Here’s what can be expected.

Skoda Kushaq CNG in Works

Skoda Kushaq, a top-seller for the European manufacturer in India with sales approaching 5,000 units every month, is on the radar for a CNG model. While there was no official word on a launch date, Skoda India Brand Director Ashish Gupta confirmed that the model is on consideration. The company is testing its turbo-petrol engine’s compatibility for CNG fuel, sources indicate. The petrol Kushaq is priced between Rs.8.25 lakh and Rs.13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and its CNG version, once greenlit, will likely attract buyers seeking fuel savings without compromising on power.

Tata Curvv CNG Spotted Testing

Last month, Tata Curvv CNG was seen testing near Pune, indicating its development is already underway. Once launched, it will become Tata’s second vehicle after the Nexon to offer petrol, diesel, EV, and CNG options. The CNG variant is likely to come equipped with Tata’s twin-cylinder technology, which already powers models such as the Altroz, Tiago, and Nexon. Geared to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Curvv CNG has potential to raise the bar in terms of versatility and technology in eco-friendly SUVs.

Kia Carens CNG Confirmed for Launch

Kia also gears up to introduce CNG with the Carens Clavis. Kia India’s Senior VP and Head of Sales & Marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar, confirmed that the company will be launching the product by the end of 2025. As more people adopt CNG, the brand is now looking to introduce CNG variants in its lineup. Ready to take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Kia Carens CNG is likely to offer convenience and comfort, a serious contender in the MPV segment.

CNG Growth in India

For the first time ever in financial year 2025, India has seen sales of CNG vehicles outpacing diesel vehicles. This has been fueled by affordability, higher mileage, and a lower carbon footprints. These are enticing more customers—and manufacturers—toward CNG variants. With new launches by Skoda, Tata, and Kia lined up for the future, the CNG SUV segment will see intense competition and great new options for customers.
