Ravan Death Story: The Ramayana, written by Valmiki, is considered highly significant in Hinduism. It is also considered the first epic poem in Sanskrit. Mandodari plays a key role in this epic. Mandodari is known as Ravana’s wife. As we all know, Mandodari was a very devoted wife and a great devotee of Lord Shiva. It was due to a boon from Lord Shiva that she was married to Ravana.
Vibhishana Revealed This Secret
During the battle between Lord Rama and Ravana, Lord Rama repeatedly struck Ravana’s head with arrows. Repeated arrows severed Ravana’s head, yet Ravana remained undead.
However, during this time, Vibhishana revealed to Lord Rama the secret to Ravana’s defeat. According to this, Ravana could only be killed by a divine arrow. This divine arrow could only be pierced through Ravana’s navel.
The divine arrow described by Vibhishana was given to Ravana as a boon by Lord Brahma. Ravana had this divine arrow embedded in a pillar right in front of the royal throne inside his palace. Besides Ravana, only Mandodari knew about it.
Hanuman Wins Mandodari’s Trust
But then Hanuman arrives at Ravana’s palace disguised as an astrologer. With his wisdom and devotion, he wins Mandodari’s trust. Mandodari then tells him about the same divine arrow. But then Hanuman reverts to his proper form and, with a single punch, shatters the pillar, removing the arrow.
Hanuman then returns to the battlefield and hands the arrow to Lord Rama. Lord Rama fires this arrow at Ravana’s navel, killing him. Similarly, Mandodari, though unknowingly, also played a role in Ravana’s death.
