Chhath Puja 2025: Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. This grand festival is celebrated with great purity and faith. Today is the third day of Chhath Puja, and the evening Arghya offering will take place. This day is considered the most difficult, and devotees offer Arghya to the setting sun. However, on this day, devotees and their families must follow specific rules. So, let’s find out what these rules are.

These mistakes should be avoided during the evening offering of Arghya

On the third day of Chhath Puja, devotees are not required to eat food or drink even a drop of water from sunrise until sunrise the next day. If this fast is broken, Chhathi Maiya may become angry.

If you are not fasting while preparing the Prasad or decorating the Arghya, you should not touch it without washing your hands. While preparing offerings or handling puja materials, one should not work with impure hands, without bathing, or while wearing slippers.

During the fast, the devotee should spend time with a calm and pure mind. This day is a very strict fast, so getting angry or using abusive language is prohibited. According to beliefs, doing so destroys the benefits of the fast and brings negativity into the home.

What should be done on the day of Sandhya Arghya?

At sunset, one should reach the banks of a holy river or a water pond built at home well in advance, with all preparations in place.

The devotee should wear clean, traditional clothing.

During the Arghya, both the devotee and those participating in the offering should also maintain utmost purity.

The devotee should hold a spoon in their hands or offer the milk and Ganga water with someone’s help. The stream of Arghya is directed towards the setting sun.

While offering Arghya, the pot should be held so that the sun’s rays are visible through the stream of water.

It is also essential to chant Vedic mantras while offering Arghya.

After offering Arghya, the ghee lamp kept in the bowl should be lit and immersed in the water. Alternatively, it can also be kept on the banks of the ghat.

On the ghat, one should listen to the story of Chhath Vrat from the elders of the family or the priest.

After performing Aarti, one should pray to Chhathi Maiya for happiness and prosperity, as well as for the long life of the children.
