Annan Seer Thittam Scheme: Good news for women. Last Wednesday, the Tamil Nadu State Government unveiled its first budget. Joseph Thalapathy Vijay announced multiple schemes for women, including the Annan Seer Thittam, with an allocation of Rs 812 crore for this initiative. Under this scheme, married girls will receive a silk saree along with a gold coin as a wedding gift. While this initiative may appear new to many, it was originally launched by the DMK government in 1989 and was temporarily halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now being reintroduced. Let’s explore the Annan Seer Thittam scheme further.

What is the Annan Seer Thittam Scheme?

It’s important to highlight that a budget of Rs 812 crore has been allocated for the Annan Seer Thittam scheme as of Wednesday, August 5, 2026. This scheme, which translates to “wedding gift from elder brother” in Hindi, aims to provide girls with an 8-gram gold coin and a silk saree as wedding gifts from Thalapathy Vijay’s government. When did the Annan Seer Thittam scheme begin? The DMK government initiated this scheme in 1989. In 2011, then-Chief Minister Jayalalithaa made several modifications, including offering 4 grams of gold and 50,000 rupees to girls on their wedding day. This scheme is regarded as Jayalalithaa’s masterstroke, and Thalapathy has enhanced it.

The scheme was then revised in 2016, increasing the gold requirement from 4 grams to 8 grams. However, with the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, the scheme was temporarily suspended. However, pending application forms were awarded gold in 2021, but new applications are not being accepted. During his election campaign, Thalapathy Vijay promised the public that he would restart the Annan Seer Thittam scheme.

Once the government releases the official notification for this scheme, the application process might look something like this… This scheme is designed to benefit girls from economically disadvantaged and middle-class families. Additionally, eligibility for this scheme is restricted to residents of Tamil Nadu. Both the bride and groom are required to possess an Aadhar card. A family income certificate is also necessary. To apply for the scheme, you will need a marriage card or some form of marriage proof.
