Amaranth Yatra Suspended: Big news for pilgrims. The pilgrimage to the sacred cave shrine of Amarnath has been put on hold starting Sunday, July 19th. Reports indicate that this decision was made due to adverse weather conditions. Previously, it was noted that this year’s ice Shivalinga had completely melted within the first five days of the pilgrimage. Consequently, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in the region.
Kashmir’s Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg stated that the postponement of the Yatra was made with the safety of the pilgrims in mind. So far, it has been reported that 3.7 lakh devotees have visited Baba Amarnath. Meanwhile, rainfall has also begun in other regions of the country. A 93-year-old rainfall record was shattered in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, where 16 inches of rain fell on Saturday, surpassing the previous record of 14.93 inches set in 1993.

A rain alert has been issued for all 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, and Barabanki. Additionally, the location for Ganga Aarti had to be relocated due to the rapid rise in the water level of the Ganga River in Varanasi. The administration has made the call to temporarily halt the pilgrimage starting July 19, 2026. This suspension affects both main routes, Pahalgam and Baltal. The reason behind this decision is a weather forecast from the Meteorological Department predicting bad weather in the coming days. With the potential for heavy rain, slippery paths, and landslides in the hilly areas, officials believe that the safety of the pilgrims is the top priority. Thus, they felt it was better to pause the pilgrimage for now rather than risk any harm.

As a result of this decision, pilgrims at the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu have been instructed not to move forward. They are to stay at the base camp and wait for further updates from the administration.
Every year, millions flock to Amarnath to pay their respects to Baba Barfani. However, the weather in this high-altitude area can shift rapidly. That’s why the administration keeps a close eye on the weather and road conditions. If things aren’t looking good, the pilgrimage gets temporarily put on hold.
Officials have mentioned that they will make a decision as soon as the weather improves. In the meantime, devotees are encouraged to stick to official updates. This means that those planning to visit Baba Barfani will need to be patient a bit longer. The pilgrimage will only restart once the weather calms down and the routes are deemed safe.
