New Delhi: The Indian cricket team suffered a crushing defeat against South Africa in their first Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup. Against South Africa’s 187, the Indian team could only manage 111 runs, losing by 76 runs. India will now have to win both of their Super 8 matches.
Even one defeat will eliminate them from the race for the semi-finals. This has been a major blow to both India’s players and teammates. Following this defeat, Indian team captain Surya Kumar Yadav broke his silence. During the post-match presentation, Surya discussed the main reasons for the defeat and explained where Team India made mistakes.

Batting was the reason for the defeat.
Indian team captain Surya Kumar Yadav attributed the defeat to batting failure. He said that when chasing 180-185 runs, you can’t win the match in the powerplay, but you can certainly lose the match in the powerplay.
We lost too many wickets in the first six overs. After that, we didn’t get the small partnerships we needed. This is part of the game; we will learn from this and come back stronger.

Praise for these players
India captain Surya Kumar Yadav also praised the bowlers after the defeat. He praised Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Surya Kumar Yadav said, “We bowled very well in the beginning and restricted them to 21 for 3.
South Africa batted brilliantly between overs 7 and 15, but we made a comeback in the end. The pair of Bumrah and Arshdeep is very lethal. Together they took five wickets and conceded few runs. Having this experienced pair in the team is a great thing for us.”
India will face Zimbabwe in the next match
Regarding their second Super-8 match, Surya Kumar Yadav said that the team will not make any major changes to its strategy. He said, “Our plan for the next match is simple: good batting, good bowling, and good fielding. We will play the same brand of cricket we are known for. We will keep things simple and come back strongly.”
How much did South Africa score?
For information, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, the African team could only manage 187 runs for 7 wickets. Chasing the target, the Indian team returned to the pavilion after scoring 111 runs in 18.5 overs. Not a single moment in the match seemed to be in India’s favour. Africa easily won the match in a one-sided manner.
