PhonePe UPI Update: Nowadays, digital transactions are booming in every corner of India. From grocery stores to cab bookings or food delivery, UPI has become a must-have everywhere. However, the issue of repeatedly entering the UPI PIN even for small purchases has been a source of annoyance for many people. To solve this problem for customers and to make the payment process faster, PhonePe has come up with a great feature. From now on, there will be no need to enter the PIN for transactions above a certain limit.
What are the benefits of biometric payments?
PhonePe has introduced the facility of biometric authentication or fingerprint payment for its customers. As a result, users will be able to complete the payment using the fingerprint sensor or face unlock feature of their smartphone. The company claims that this new technology will save a lot of time when making payments and will reduce the hassle of remembering or typing the PIN repeatedly. This feature will be very useful especially in a crowd or during rush hours.
How much money can be sent without a PIN?
If you have to make many small payments throughout the day, then this news is a relief for you. PhonePe has said that for transactions up to 5,000 rupees, you will no longer need to enter the UPI PIN. That is, now only a biometric scan is enough for grocery shopping, buying medicines or small expenses on the road. However, for transactions above 5,000 rupees, the use of PIN will remain mandatory as before for security reasons.
Security and protection system
Many may wonder, is payment without PIN safe? The company has assured this. In this feature, the smartphone’s own security system (such as fingerprint or face recognition) will work as a second level of security or 2FA. As a result, there will be no loss of security even if the PIN is not entered. Currently, this facility is available only for Android smartphone users. It has been informed that this feature will be launched for iPhone users in the future.
How to enable the feature
Follow the steps below to enable this feature on your PhonePe app:
- First, open your PhonePe app and go to the profile section.
- There, find the “Manage Payments” option.
- Then tap on the “Biometric Pay” option.
- Enable biometric authentication for your specific bank account.
Remember, during the first setup, you will need to verify both your UPI PIN and biometrics. Once this process is complete, you will not have to enter your PIN again to make payments up to Rs. 5,000.
