Free Gas Cylinder on Holi 2026: Holi, the festival of colors, is just around the corner, and the markets are already bustling with activity. Kitchen budgets often suffer during this festive season, especially due to rising gas cylinder prices. However, this time, the governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have provided significant relief to the common man by announcing free gas cylinders and financial assistance.

While Uttar Pradesh is providing free cylinders directly to beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana, the Delhi government has decided to transfer funds directly to the accounts of ration card holders. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has opened a box of joy for middle- and lower-income families in the capital. The Delhi government has decided to provide financial assistance for gas cylinders to eligible families during major festivals like Holi and Diwali. The government has approved a hefty budget of approximately ₹242 crore for this purpose.

The most significant feature of this scheme is that the Delhi government will not directly provide the cylinders, but will instead transfer an amount of ₹853 directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. This will allow families to refill their gas as needed. It is estimated that approximately 1.75 lakh ration card-holding families in Delhi will directly benefit from this scheme. The biggest relief is that households with piped gas (PNG) connections will also receive equal financial assistance.

Continuing its tradition during the festive season, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to provide free gas cylinders to women who have connections under the Ujjwala scheme. The government believes that this move will free women from rural and economically weaker sections from smoke and significantly reduce their kitchen expenses. This masterstroke by the UP government is being considered a major step towards women’s empowerment and the welfare of the poor.

Like every government scheme, this scheme also has strict rules and conditions to ensure that benefits reach only those truly in need. In Delhi, this assistance will only be available to families with active and valid ration cards. Families that do not fall under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category or do not have a ration card are excluded from this scheme.

Furthermore, government employees and retired pensioners will also not be eligible for this cash assistance. In Uttar Pradesh, benefits will only be available to those enrolled in the Ujjwala Yojana scheme. If you have a regular gas connection, you will not be able to avail this free service.
