Aadhaar Update: In India, the Aadhaar card has become an integral part of almost every essential service. Whether it’s opening a bank account, receiving government subsidies, getting a mobile SIM card, or availing benefits from government schemes, Aadhaar is required everywhere. In such a scenario, if information like name, address, or date of birth is incorrect on the Aadhaar card, people face considerable difficulties. Considering this problem, UIDAI has made the rules related to Aadhaar updates simpler and clearer than before.
Learn about UIDAI’s new rules
UIDAI aims to ensure that no citizen is deprived of Aadhaar-related services due to a lack of documents or a complicated process. Under the new rules, more documents are now accepted, and the entire process has been made more flexible so that people don’t have to visit centers repeatedly.

Updating your name in Aadhaar is easy
Correcting your name on your Aadhaar card is now much simpler than before. If there is a spelling mistake in the name or if the name has changed after marriage, several government documents are accepted. A passport, PAN card, Voter ID, driving license, and other government identity cards can be used to update the name. In case of a name change after marriage, the marriage certificate is also valid, which has provided significant relief, especially to women.
Documents required for changing your address
UIDAI has also provided several options for changing your address. People living in rented accommodation or those who frequently change their residence can now easily update their address. Bank passbook, bank statement, recent electricity, water, or gas bill, ration card, and new Voter ID are accepted as proof of address. Additionally, the address can also be changed based on a rent agreement.
Documents required for changing your date of birth
If the date of birth is incorrectly recorded on the Aadhaar card, the birth certificate is considered the best document for correction. Besides this, the 10th or 12th-grade mark sheet, passport, or physical PAN card can also be used to correct the date of birth. UIDAI’s Important Changes
UIDAI has made another major change: if a single document contains the name, photo, and address, that document will be sufficient for both identity and address verification. This will eliminate the need to submit separate documents and save time.

How many times can the name be changed?
The new rules also stipulate that the name in Aadhaar can be changed a maximum of two times in a lifetime. Changes to the date of birth and gender are permitted only once. Therefore, it is crucial to provide accurate information when applying.
UIDAI has adopted a strict stance against fraudulent documents. If incorrect or fake documents are found during verification, the application may be rejected, and action may be taken against the person concerned.
Overall, these new rules have made the Aadhaar update process easier, faster, and more reliable than ever before. It is now possible to make necessary corrections to the Aadhaar card with fewer documents, in less time, and without much hassle, which will directly benefit the general public.
