Duplicate Ration Card: Living in the country requires several documents, and a ration card is one of the most important. Many people struggle to afford even two meals a day, so the government offers free or discounted rations to help, but you need a ration card to access these benefits.
This card links you to government food security programs, affordable rations, and various other perks. Unfortunately, it’s common for people to misplace their ration cards, which can be stressful. However, if yours goes missing or gets stolen, there’s no need to freak out. Renewing it has become super simple. You can apply either offline or online from the comfort of your home, so let’s go over the steps.
What should you do if you lose your ration card?
If your ration card is lost or stolen, the first step is to file an FIR at the closest police station. Keep in mind that many places require a copy of the FIR to get a duplicate ration card. After you file the FIR, make sure to keep a copy of it. You’ll need to upload a scanned version of this FIR when you apply online. Once that’s done, you can proceed to apply for a new ration card.
How to apply offline?
If you prefer to get a duplicate ration card offline, head over to the District Food and Supplies Department office in your area. Pick up an application form for a duplicate ration card and fill it out carefully. You’ll need to submit a copy of the FIR you received from the police, photos of your family members, your Aadhaar card, and any other necessary documents along with your application. Some states may charge a fee for this process. After you submit everything, your application will be reviewed, and officials will usually let you know within a few days when your new card is ready for pickup at your nearest ration card office.
