Monsoon Update – The intense cold has brought life to a standstill, and the situation continues to worsen. Dense fog has drastically reduced visibility, with visibility reaching zero in many places. Continuous snowfall in the mountains is causing extreme cold in the plains. People are forced to spend their time huddled around heaters and bonfires, causing considerable distress.
In Delhi-NCR, the cold has broken all records. The minimum temperature recorded at the Palam observatory near Delhi Airport was 4.8 degrees Celsius. Drizzle was recorded in many areas of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Rain continues in some parts of South India. Rain is expected in several areas over the next two days.

Delhi Weather Forecast
There is little chance of respite from the cold in the national capital, Delhi. The temperature in Delhi was recorded at 4.6 degrees Celsius the previous day. ββJanuary 8th was the coldest day of 2026 so far. The cold is expected to intensify further. Dense fog and haze could further worsen air quality.
Three-Day Cold Wave Warning
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a Western Disturbance is likely to become active over Punjab and adjoining areas. Dense fog is expected to prevail over Northwest India, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi in the coming week, which could increase people’s difficulties.

A drop in minimum temperatures is also expected in these areas. The IMD has issued a cold wave warning for the next three days (72 hours) for Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.
Rain Alert in These States
According to the Meteorological Department, a heavy rain alert has been issued for many areas of Tamil Nadu on January 11th. Furthermore, thunderstorms with lightning are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until January 12th.

Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 45-55 km per hour over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and near the Sri Lankan coast. The wind speed is expected to increase to 65 km per hour. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from these sea areas. Rain is possible in some parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka.
