Pension New Update: If you are a pensioner, this news could be very important for you. The government has taken a significant decision for pensioners. This decision will provide relief to pensioners from the hassle of visiting various offices. This decision has been taken by the Uttar Pradesh government. The main objective of this decision is to simplify the pension distribution process.

Now, eligible senior citizens aged 60 years or older will no longer have to visit different government offices or submit various documents to receive their pension. This facility will be provided through the government’s Family ID system. This will ensure that old-age pensions are directly deposited into the bank accounts of eligible senior citizens.

What is the Family ID System?

The Family ID is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘One Family-One Identity’ scheme. Under this scheme, every family is provided with a unique 12-digit identification number. This database contains the age, address, bank account, and other details of all family members. The Social Welfare Department uses this information to identify senior citizens aged 60 years or older and automatically enrolls them for the pension.

How will the new system work?

Senior citizens who will turn 60 in the next 90 days will have their names added to the pension list in advance. After verification of eligibility, the beneficiary will be contacted via SMS, WhatsApp, or phone call for their consent. Upon receiving consent, the pension will be approved within 15 days, and the amount will be deposited into the Aadhaar-linked bank account through direct bank transfer.

Pension Amount and Beneficiaries

Currently, approximately 67.5 lakh senior citizens in Uttar Pradesh receive an old-age pension of Rs. 1,000 every month. The new system will benefit even more eligible senior citizens, as no eligible person will now be deprived of the benefit. The pension amount is deposited quarterly, and the life certificate can also be submitted online. This scheme operates under the National Old Age Pension Scheme and is jointly funded by the state and central governments.

Family ID is mandatory.

If an elderly person does not have a Family ID, they will not be able to avail the benefits of the scheme. A Family ID can be created online through the Aadhaar number (familyid.up.gov.in) or at the nearest CSC (Common Service Centre). This change is a great relief for the elderly, as previously, submitting documents, obtaining certificates, and going through a lengthy process took a lot of time, resulting in many eligible people being deprived of the benefits.
