8th Pay Commission Update – The central government has constituted the 8th Pay Commission, but the big question on everyone’s mind is when it will be implemented. The 8th Pay Commission will bring good news for central government employees, as a significant salary increase is expected. The fitment factor is considered the basis for this salary increase.
Approximately 50 lakh employees and 69 lakh pensioners will benefit from this. Meanwhile, the committee constituted for the new pay commission is actively engaged in its review. How much can an employee’s salary increase?
The fitment factor will remain the basis for salary increases in the 8th Pay Commission. Therefore, everyone is making their own predictions regarding the fitment factor. There is a strong possibility that the fitment factor will be between 1.83 and 2.46. If this happens, a substantial increase in the minimum salary can be expected.
If the minimum salary of central government employees is ₹18,000, then with a fitment factor of 1.93, it will increase to ₹32,940. Furthermore, if the fitment factor is 2.46, the minimum basic salary will increase to ₹44,280.

This amount will be like a booster dose for central government employees. The basic salary of central government employees will increase by approximately ₹14,940 to ₹28,280. This amount will be effective in combating inflation.
When can the Pay Commission be implemented?
The constituted committee is reviewing and preparing its report. It is expected to take about a year and a half, or 18 months, to prepare the report. If this happens, the 8th Pay Commission could be implemented anytime in 2027, which everyone is eagerly awaiting.
The central government implements a new pay commission every ten years. If this rule were followed, the 8th Pay Commission should have been implemented on January 1, 2026. Due to the delay in its formation, this will not be possible now.
