Hobart Hurricanes won league first time in 11 years
The Hobart Hurricanes made history in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). In the WBBL 2025 final played on Saturday, the Hobart Hurricanes defeated the Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets to win their first title in 11 years. Lizelle Lee played a match-winning innings of 77 not out off 44 balls.
In the match, Perth Scorchers, batting first, scored 137 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Devin scored 34 runs. Graham and Linsey took two wickets each. Chasing the target, Hobart won the match by scoring 141 runs for the loss of two wickets in 15 overs. The Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat first, but failed to accelerate their innings despite several missed fielding opportunities by the Hurricanes. In-form opener Beth Mooney (33 off 26 balls) was given three lives in the powerplay.

However, she was bowled by Heather Graham in the 11th over. Graham (2-26) also took the crucial wicket of Scorchers captain Sophie Devine. Hobart spinner Linsey Smith bowled just two overs and took crucial wickets, taking 2/8. Then, in the chase, Lizelle Lee batted brilliantly and gave her team a strong start. Lee hit three consecutive fours in the first over, including a six after a dropped catch. Lee batted aggressively, hitting 10 fours and four sixes.
She played a key role in the chase, sharing a 77-run partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt (27). This was the Hurricanes’ first trophy in the 11th edition of the WBBL. The men’s team previously won the BBBL title last season.
