Former Indian captain Kapil Dev did not support the idea of having separate coaches for different formats of the team after the recent 0-2 Test series loss to South Africa at home. He said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should adopt the coaching method that is best for Indian cricket. Gautam Gambhir is currently the head coach of Team India.
Legendary Kapil Dev commented on multiple coaches theory
When asked if having separate coaches for the red-ball and white-ball formats could help India end its losing streak in Tests at home, Kapil said, “I don’t know. I can’t answer that. You have to think about what should happen. Whatever is good for cricket, I think they should do that.”
Kapil, who led India to the 1983 World Cup, dismissed suggestions that being an athlete is more difficult in the age of social media than it was during his playing days. He said, “No, it’s always the same. It was difficult then, it’s difficult now. It was easy then, and it’s easy now. Your thinking is more important.”When asked if the growing financial allure of T20 leagues has overshadowed national representation, Kapil said every player prioritizes their careers differently.

“Everyone likes money, but some players feel it’s more important. I still think playing for India is more important than playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But everyone is different, they have their own perspectives. Best of luck to them,” he said.
When asked if he likes any particular format, Kapil said he enjoys all formats of the game. “I just love cricket. It doesn’t matter if it’s two-ball cricket or 100 balls or 100 overs or 10 overs. Cricket is cricket. Golf is golf, no matter which format you play. In the end, you enjoy golf,” he said. When asked about the performances of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the PGTI chairman jokingly remarked, “Good luck to them, they should play golf too.”
